What problems can I expect with a cheap DVD recorder – or why should I spend more?

I’ve seen some really cheap DVD recorders in ASDA and would really like one – but am concerned that I will ‘get what I pay for’ and that it will not work. Has anybody got any experience with cheap DVD recorders from anywhere, whether positive or negative.
Also, what features will I be missing out on with a cheap one (I know nothing about how they work). Is there a particular feature I should make sure it includes, even if I pay more for it.
Just in case it makes a difference, I want to record films/programmes from Sky at home.

I bought one of those in Asda and found that it worked fine but was let down by little things like the quality of the remote etc.
I ended up changing it 6 months later and sold the original on E-bay for half what I paid for it.
Guess I should have bought a better (known brand) one in the first place.
PS if you can afford it, go for one with a hard drive, brillient.
